Why Boris takes steps every day.

We are known thanks to our professionals, the Finexters. Some have just started working for a month and others have years of work experience, but all are consultants and all are constantly developing their own, and each other's, skills. But who are these 'Finexters' and what exactly do they do as consultants? They can best tell us that themselves, of course. We ask Boris Pejcic, junior consultant, about his experiences.

Boris implements OneStream at Finext's customers. "These are often large, listed multinationals, with interesting issues," says Boris. He focuses on business planning, both financial planning and operational planning.

Dynamic and interesting

Such a project begins with asking the requirements. Boris: "How is the customer's process structured, and what goals do they have with the implementation? Then we look for the best solution. What I find interesting is that every customer has its own problems, and then we try to solve them. Throughout the project, we hold multiple sessions with the customer to see if we're on the right track."

This is exactly why Boris was eager to get started as a consultant: "I enjoy seeing different companies and environments. It's very dynamic and I can help several companies at the same time."

Getting acquainted with different tools

Finext implements all major Performance Management software, which means that as a starter you can get to know several tools. Many starting consultants like this, because it allows you to find out which software suits you best - after all, each tool has its own characteristics. Boris: "The technical nature of each tool is clearly explained first. Some tools are very technical, while others are much less so. Everyone has their own taste in these. I like the fact that I could express a preference for a tool myself."

Soon Boris noticed a clear preference for the OneStream platform. "After seeing different tools, OneStream appealed to me the most. It's quite technical, which suits me well."

"Actually, I always have a successful day: I am eager to learn and get one step further every day."

Getting one step further every day

It turns out to be a good choice. "Actually, I always have a successful day: I am eager to learn and get one step further every day," he said.

The highlight of his day? "Working together to build something cool in OneStream that we can be proud of. For example, when we solve a customer problem, such as a complex integration between two systems. Sometimes I spend all day trying to figure out the solution. If it works then, that's great."

In doing so, Boris has learned that it is helpful to keep the bigger picture in mind. "Sometimes we tend to have tunnel vision, but when you see the bigger picture, you see where the solution is."

The best idea counts - even from a junior

Not only does he like OneStream, Boris is enthusiastic about his choice of Finext. "I learn a lot in a short time - more than at a traditional company. Finext is a flat organization where you get a lot of freedom. In fact, seniors and juniors really see each other as colleagues here, and not as a manager with a number of juniors as in a traditional company.

That provides a lot, Boris believes. "We're all just people here, which allows us to have a quiet conversation. Everyone adds something, no one is excluded. This makes you feel more comfortable: if I have an idea, I can say it too. Then we'll spar about it together and if my idea is better, we'll do it."

Acting together a lot - at work and beyond

He also values the fun Boris has with other Finexters: "We do a lot of activities as a team and as a company, which is a lot of fun. For example, we went to Berlin as a workation. From such a weekend away together the best memories are created."

Besides his own team and the other Finexters in the office, Boris still has a lot of contact with the other trainees, even now that they have completed the Traineeship. "We still have our own group chat and are even going on vacation soon as a whole trainee group."

You can do more than you think

Asked for advice for other junior consultants, Boris is adamant: "Believe in yourself. Sometimes you may think you can't do something yet, but you often figure it out. If you find something difficult, tackle it carefully and step by step. You can do more than you think, for example, solve that one problem in OneStream by yourself anyway."
