Why Sander never has an average day.

We are known thanks to our professionals, the Finexters. Some have just started working for a month and others have years of work experience, but all are consultants and all are constantly developing their own, and each other's, skills. But who are these 'Finexters' and what exactly do they do as consultants? They can best tell us that themselves, of course. We ask Sander Rutten, Lead Consultant, about his experiences.

Sander Rutten works as a lead consultant for the OneStream team. And that's anything but boring. "One minute I'm talking to a customer, the next I'm analyzing thousands of lines of code.

"My job is twofold," explains Sander. "As lead consultant, I am the leader of the OneStream team, and in addition I am ultimately responsible for the substantive delivery of projects at clients." He explains what this means in practice: "I conduct discussions with the client and ensure that the team, including myself, delivers the right quality and takes the right steps to achieve the best end result. Of course, I always do this in collaboration with our project managers."

Always different

So Sander always works on a project basis, which means an average workday doesn't really exist for him. "In each phase of a project, my role is different. I can successively be busy getting to the bottom of customer questions, guiding colleagues or I'm at the controls myself. However, I always have the same goal in mind: coming up with simple solutions to complex problems." Apart from project work, Sander also focuses on internal tasks. "Then my focus is on the team and sales, and of course I work on my own professional development."

Thorough knowledge and good communication

Lead consultant is a multifaceted job that does require some specific knowledge and experience. "For my role, in-depth knowledge of EPM tools and good communication skills are essential," Sander explains. "The tools and solutions can sometimes be complex, yet you need to be able to answer customer questions clearly and simply and have conversations at both a global and detailed level." A pragmatic and solution-oriented approach are also important, he stresses. "OneStream offers numerous possibilities, but not everything the customer has in mind is always the best approach. It's all about finding the most practical solution and making the best use of the platform."

Never boring

Sander's job is anything but monotonous. "One minute I'm talking to a customer, the next I'm analyzing thousands of lines of code to track down an error. That variety is exactly what I look for in my job." In addition, Sander reveals that working together in a team is a must for him. "That makes even the most boring tasks fun."

Freedom and responsibility

About Finext as an employer, Sander says the following: "Working at Finext means being in control. The organization is flat, the culture informal. As an employee you get a lot of freedom, but with that freedom comes responsibility. Are you dissatisfied about something? Solve it! Have a good idea? Carry it out! I really like that." Sander is therefore glad he chose Finext two years ago. "I really enjoy working here!"
